The company I use now does that with every debit card, but they told me it
is the clients' banks that make that decision. It is usually 20%. I have
had clients call and ask if I made a mistake. They cannot comprehend what
their bank is doing.

Buenos dias!

Please read the following if you have tipping enabled on your Square
account.... tipping can be turned off in your settings.

"Tipping causes a pending transaction for the payer to be 40% larger than
the amount actually charged.
If you are a Square user that has tipping turned on, our current
infrastructure shows a pending charge on your client's payment card
statement for 40% more then the original charge. As the bank changes the
pending to a final charge, it will change to show the original transaction
amount. As an example, if your client owes you $10.00 and you have tipping
enabled (even if they don't tip you anything) a $4.00 extra pending charge
will show on their bank/credit card statement. After a few days, the $14.00
will change back to the original amount of $10.00 automatically.
This is a feature we are working on to not require the 40% extra add on
during the pending state."
