First, I know we have been discussing this for a while...I have several clients
who have been getting the gel polish mani for many months now. They want their
nails longer, but we have to keep cutting them back as they are getting weaker
and weaker. I use axxium soak off and Eco Soak off and I have been soaking them
with cotton/foil heating pads for 10-15 min and then having to file off the
gel. Yes, I file off the topcoat prior to soaking. They do not want it filed
off by hand or drill, nor do I want to spend 20 min filing it off. Now they are
getting upset because the gel polish is not doing as well as before and their
nails are weak. How are you all dealing with this issue?
On another note...are you all experiencing natural nail clients who seek
the gel polish mani, that are now having unrealistic expectations of the
product? I had a client stand me up this week. I have been doing gel polish
manis on her since August. She typically will go 3-4 weeks between manis with
the GP on. Her last appointment was the day before Thanksgiving. Her appt this
week was on Tuesday and she did not show. I tried to call her several times,
then had the receptionist call until she got her. She was rude to the
receptionist and told her that she had gone somewhere else because her nails
were peeling. I don't worry about pleasing everybody, so no big deal, Just
don't stand me up right? Well, she comes in yesterday for her hair appt and I
happened to be outside taking a break as she walked in. She was just as sweet
as pie,and said "sorry I missed my last appt, I went somewhere else. It had
been about 3 weeks since you did them, and they were already starting to peel".
I said " really? Really? It lasted over three weeks and just how long did
you expect it to last. Polish never lasted more than 2 days on you, so three
weeks is pretty much beyond target for a manicure to last " she said. " Well I
just didn't think you did as good of a job because I thought they would last
thru Christmas". I told her sorry she felt that way and good luck in where she
was going. But I am starting to see this unrealistic expectation of this
product from the public. I am also seeing that they expect to not break nails
at all even after being told this is not like ac or traditonal gel overlays.
Are you all seeing this and how are you dealing with it?

Last Year: Hybrid Nails

Griege, gruple, murple (fine, we made that one up), mixed shades were
all the rage. Muted, hybrid nails popped up on runways last spring
and were shortly followed by some major red carpet events. Though
this trend will most likely linger in 2011, it won't be as big of a
deal as it was this past winter when polishes disappeared from the
shelves almost instantly.

This Year: Moon Manis

Trade in those neutral hues for a funky twist on the average
manicure. Moon manis are painted on your nails so that it looks like
a half oval moon is at the base of your nail. From the standard black
and white to textured, glittery moon manis you can expect to see some
serious celestial nail trends in a salon near you.
