The bank was offering a promotion of $200 to open a business checking account.
However, before you qualified as a "business" they checked the State Of Ohio
website to see if you had "registered" your business. She actually went to the
website, then entered my business name and came up with nothing! I was
shocked, because I have been doing business under this name for over 20 years!
Paying sales tax on your business has nothing to do with "registering" your
business name with the State of Ohio it turns out! Registering your business
name prevents others from using your name. Its $50 to register the name for 5
years, then $25 to "renew" the registered name. I guess I will go ahead and
register it, as she pointed out, since it came up with nothing in the search,
at least no one else has registered my business name in Ohio either!

I think that's true if you are using your name and not a business name like
Nails By Me).
In saying that, Pam are just using your name or are you setting up a business
ccount using a business name?

Register with whom? I never heard of that, most banks will allow you to open a
usiness account as long as you have a EIN and your state license? Was this a
mall bank?

Hi Techs,
I went to open a business checking acct at a different bank yesterday and was
old that I could NOT open a business checking acct because I wasn't
registered" with the state of Ohio! I had brought my vendors lic. , but the
ady said that that only proves I pay taxes and that I had never "registered" my
usiness name in Ohio ! WTH is this!? I asked her why I would register my
ame after 20 years of doing nails under this name. She gave me an example of a
ank client who didn't register his name, ex. Ohio Carpet Cleaning, and when a
ompetitor opened a business under the same name and REGISTERED it with Ohio,
he original business owner had to CHANGE his business name, repaint his signs,
is trucks, re-do his business cards, etc. Of course, there is a $50 fee to
register" your business name with Ohio! This is all news to me, what do ya'll
hink? When I register, is it going to bring an avalanche of paperwork down on
e? What changes besides the fact that no one else can use your name?
