Hi
I am in the process of re-finishing the floor boards as well as the teak tiller on
my F-27. (#126). Most of the floor boards, I noticed, are not teak veneered.
Some seem to be regular ply. I had to sand them down with an orbital sander
to get the black stain off of them.

They were possibly covered by a carpet so you would not know anyhow.
Some of the smaller pieces seem to be teak. The piece covering the water
holding tank--I think that's what it is--port side of the daggerboard casing is
definitely teak. The tiller is clearly teak. I went to Home depot and got a
special glossy marine spar varnish from McClossky. It's about $10 a quart. I
hope to put the traditional 12 coats on the tiller.

I am also in the process of teak veneering the trim pieces in the cabin which
are really finished cheaply. They will also get several coats of the McClossky
marine varnish on them.

So I guess the answer is take all the pieces out of the cabin. Check the grain
carefully to see which is regular ply and which is veneered, sand and varnish.
One thing is certain: they all look a hell of the lots better after the treatment
and the tiller is coming up nicely.

Regards,
Claus
