Too bad you're not here, in suburban San Diego, you could have even
more fun helping me diagnose this, hands on! And the weather is really
nice..... ;)

I went to Kragen to see if I could find the famous Delco ST 125 spark
analyzer, supposedly only about $10. Nope, he wasn't even familiar
with it. But he suggested that the resistor for the ignition coil
might have gone bad - supposedly it happens a lot with the Dodges. So
I replaced that part, it was easy to do. But it didn't make any
difference.
Afterwards I took out one of the plugs, and looked at the spark while
cranking. It looked pretty darn bright. I couldn't describe it as any
color, just as a brilliant flash.

Yep. I did that today. Shining a flashlight in the carburetor, I pump
the accelerator and I can see two skinny little jets of gasoline
squirted in there.
So, to summarize:
- Using the new distributor cap & rotor. Cyl 1 is marked. It agrees
with the position suggested in the Haynes manual. The remaining wires
are strung around it in the specified firing order, clockwise.
- Gas can be seen squirting into the carburetor.
- A brilliant spark was seen on a plug while cranking.
So what else is likely to be wrong?
