And another follow-up: I realised my offset was in fact a linearity
error, so I tweaked a little bit, and a correcting term of 0.004 / Bit
did the trick. Is this ethical? ;-)

;-) Difficult to say. Offset is a fixed value to add/subtract from the measurement. A fix per bit, sounds more like you had a scaling error. So what are you suffering from...
Is it offset, scaling or gain, noise, drift, unlinearity, etc.
