Well at least I got that one to work after I got home again. Not sure how, I 
just unsoldered and moved a few components around and it started to regulate.

I didn't think you were getting at me Nick. I think to use that Max 1771 it 
needs a properly laid out PCB, not my el-cheapo home-etch creations. Now I have 
done 4 boards at elecrow.com and they are so cheap to do I would go down that 
route in future.
