I’ve got a GE AR-4, and I’m pretty sure it takes 120vac. I imagine it has some 
mixture of gasses, like mercury and argon, that allow it to strike at a lower 
voltage. Not sure about the feasibility of incorporating mercury into tubes 
made in the home shop though.
