The patch that I found, which describes the libperfstat.h and protosw.h
along with aix6.1 looked like it might be the one. The title is
net-snmp-5.4.2.1-aix61.patch and it appears to have been around since
July 2010. When you view the patch, it also lists 5.4.2.1 all
throughout the file. Here is the description of this patch:

"extremely simplistic patch to get net-snmp 5.4.2.1 to build on AIX 6.
with AIX 6 it appears you must now include <sys/protosw.h> above any
includes for libperfstat.h

all this patch does is blindly apply #define <sys/protosw.h> above all
the libperfstat.h references in various source files... this probably
breaks the compiling on other platforms/versions of aix... so someone
who actually knows what they are doing should probably fix this for real
in the net-snmp code.. same problem exists for all versions of net-snmp
on aix 6.x"

That was the only patch I found with the keywords of protosw.h or
libperfstat.h under the Patches Tracker or the Official Patches Tracker.
Maybe the problem is that I am not searching for the Thomas patch
properly or in the right place. Can you guide me there?

What makes you believe that?

The patch is to the file configure.d/config_os_headers

which doesn't exist in the 5.4.x code line.

(The restructuring of the configure mechanism was

only introduced with 5.5.x)

No.

Thomas applied this patch two days ago,

and pre2 has been out since Thursday.

Thomas is good, but he's not that good!

Your two options are exactly those that Thomas suggested:

  a) Retrieve the current 5-7-patches branch,

(instructions on how to do this are on the website)

or

  b) Wait for 5.7.1.rc1
