Dave, I had thought that what I was doing "a". But something that Thomas said this morning made me realize that it was not.
I therefore started studying further about Git and found Thomas' patch. Using `patch -b -i <patchfile> configure.d/config_os_headers` it appeared I was successful in updating configs_os_headers using the patch as the old and new files differed by what was in the patch. However it sounds like you are saying that I am still going down the wrong path for "a". The note with "a" says "instructions on how to do this are on the website" however I have not been able to find them. I have tried searching for "5.7.patches branch", I have tried looking at the download areas, I searched the FAQ, searched the INSTALL and README files, looked through the tutorials and I am just not having any luck. Is there a chance that someone could provide me a URL link to those instructions? Is there any idea when 5.7.1.rc1 will be released? Can you guide me there? The problem with simply applying Thomas' patch, is that it also requires regenerating the configure script (which requires a particular version of 'autoconf'). You have said on several occasions that you are new to the task of compiling software, so ensuring the correct autoconf environment is likely to be non-trivial. I would therefore suggest that the simplest approach is to follow the advice you have been given several times now: > a) Retrieve the current 5-7-patches branch, > (instructions on how to do this are on the website) > > or > > b) Wait for 5.7.1.rc1 Dave ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ EMC VNX: the world's simplest storage, starting under $10K The only unified storage solution that offers unified management Up to 160% more powerful than alternatives and 25% more efficient.
