there is definitely research on this, or at least on similar things. i remember something about one avatar in second life consuming the same amount of energy resources as one person living in brasil - did that come thru this list?
& as well as the actual use of the computer, the hardware obsolesence issue is maybe even greater ... the energy & resources used to create computers etc that are upgraded every couple of years ...
