I'd remember very little if not for my blog and email archives. I'm converting my blog to Jekyll, having converted it from WordPress to Movable Type and back again after originally starting with proprietary Mac based system I can't even remember the name of. Had I just chosen Bloxsom orginally I'd have less to change. Plain text isn't - ASCII is still a blob of binary data, it contrasts with EBCIDIC or any number of prior and later digital representations of alphabets. And then there's almost-formats like Markdown. UNIX tools for working with text can be very powerful, I have written scripts to search through megabytes or gigabytes of plain text with Perl or shell pipelines (grep a la Alan, cut, uniq, sort etc.).
