thank you so much for this, and of course I hope so and agree as best I can.

Second Life is a beast, filled already with debris, excavations, ruins. The old MOOs and MUDs are worse, and all of these are interesting, to the extent that they survive at all. I never thought there's be such a sense of the uncanny within the digital or virtual, but here/there, it is, and it extends, like a contagion or plague, across the entire spectrum of thought.

Which is a Troll because Alan is Never Maudlin.

The first time I encountered Alan's website I thought of him as brave. I do
not buy many peoples' fantasy of living 'off the grid'. "Off the mac grid?",
I would ask them.

The alpha betizing is ornament on your site. The beams are in place - your
archive is more stable than any I have seen. Natalie Jeremijenko, for
instance, does not have an archive which can be catalogued and indexed by
Git.

At some point there will be a zip of content - a dissemination to the finest
online monument builders. I doubt it would happen in second life, there
would be a celebration there of course, but the main bit, the part that
matters, would happen later. Your words, mixed with others, inseminate an
important conversation. Beyond that, your words, as an archive, sherpa
generations through trouble-wrought lives.

gone through the alphabet several times over. it's an arcane

useless for everyone except me; on the other hand, the 20,000
pages of text and references there are fairly complete. i
started this in 1994 with what was called then net0.txt and it's

Interesting conversation about artistic output into the

I am obsessively committed to my blog:
      http://www.randallpacker.com/

And have been for about 10 years.

Why? Not so much because of the social nature of the
      medium, but because
it is a database. It is my journal, my personal record, my
      own repository
of ideas and media. My blog is a springboard for endless
      project ideas,
most of which will never be realized, but they are
      documented with a
system of taxonomies that allows this endless torrent of
      ideas to be
      retrieved and reused.

I have a great fear of forgetting: that ideas will simply
      disappear in the
ether. It is why Ted Nelson helped conceive the Web. This,
      in my opinion,
is the great crisis in an increasingly complex global
      information culture.
As an artist with a blog I have some control over memory
      and access, and I
use it incessantly to track and organize and filter my
      thinking.

I would be lost without my blog, which is why I have
      become somewhat of a
disciple of Wordpress. With my blog, I am empowered to
      become the
archivist of my very own Library of Congress.

I am by no means a Pinterest advocate, but I do have
      a survey question.

Many of us fancy ourselves as artists - we like to
      make decisions,
even if it is only about our own work.

Online digital properties, especially the top 50
      trafficked on the
internet, differentiate themselves, not by content,
      but by features.
Pinterest's killer feature is delete. Compared to
      the competition,
Pinterest is about curation, and thus they are the
      only mass online
medium to, not just allow, but enable and promote
      deletion.

The business model of nearly every large internet
      company is to juice
every individual for-ever-y ounce of click-y-ness
      and like-y-ness they
might have. Soak up every drop of interaction and
      use it to build a
profile which can be sold. While Pinterest's
      business model is very
similar, it is slightly different in a rather
      interesting way.

Pinterest helps you boil things down, and as an
      artist that can be a
very helpful service. Regardless of whether you use
      the service, you
must register for an account to observe other
      people's curated sets.

      My question is this:

Do you have a Pinterest account?

How do you feel about the trade-off between blogs
      and wikis?

How do you feel about the fact that your activity on
      social networks
is monitored and sold to companies whose sole
      interest is to
      manipulate and corrupt you?

Would you rather have no memory, or have to
      constantly prune?

      In appreciation,
      Bz
