Are you trying the latest drivers off the VMC website (Dated 14.6.99)?

If so then you may find that they are bugged. This is the case with
their latest drivers for my Hypercom3Z. The previous beta
(released a week or so before) suffered the same problem as well. Not
one program I have can open either of my serial ports with any of
these driver releases. This includes serial mouse drivers.

Also either VMC are on holiday or just ignored my reports on both of
these driver releases. There website is now also 99% german which I
find very helpfull.

Just an idea.
