I can't be sure if this is the problem but...:

Your sig doesn't mention anything about special serial cards or
similar, so I'll assume you're using the internal port.  On an 030
this will be a significant load to the cpu, especially if you're
trying to decode large images and lay them out in tables.

The only answer is to get a faster serial port or, ironically, reduce
the baud rate of the internal one - try, for eg, 33600.  Also, how
many "connections" (the lights in the bottom left) have you got? I
have found between 4 and 8 to be best.

Web browsing will never be "fast" over a modem, imho, but I've never
had a problem with V2.95 being *unusably* slow.  Compare browsing
offline, to see if its being online which is causing the slowdown.

Of course, slight improvement can be had by making sure you've got
your VBR in fastram, you're using a fast serial driver, and you
haven't got oodles of background tasks eating your cpu time,
etc.
