The standard serial port is pretty crappy where speed is concerned. I used
to get line drops left right and centre (on an a4000) - this was with a
different
serial driver. Then got a IO card and things improved though still did get
line
drops, then got an IOBLIX and don't get line drops at all anymore.

Most modems AFAIK only support max 115200 on the serial line so that would
account for why people can't connect to anything at 230k. I know this as I
had
it set to that once and I couldn't talk to the modem.

Doesn't the a1200/a4000 standard serial have something silly like a
1 bit buffer?

Back to falling asleep on my desk (too early to be in work but I'm here).

I'm using power port Jnr also and can never get Genesis to connect
if I set
        baud above 57600. I'm using a MagicXpress 56K V90 flashed modem on a
BlizzardPPC 240-060/50 setup A1200. So how can I get higher rates?

Mine are a bit jerky ATM :)
