In theory it shouldn't have to. BMP images are uncompressed, huge,
tortuosly ineffecient things, and are 'standard' only on the Windows
platform. I'm fairly sure that Netscape on the Mac doesn't support them
before V4. All web images should be of GIF, JPEG or PNG format, and using
BMP on any web page is bad practice,
