The first time I tried dialing up with Genesis, I got through
fine (signed up using a PC). When I tried a second time the
machine hung with a 'recoverable error' (yellow flashing
screen), before resetting into a guru (red flashing screen).
This also coincided with my existing BT Internet connection
setup going up the swannee (now cancelled, as BT 0800 = costs
more than just phoning an 0845 + it took 2 months to get it
cancelled :( ), and my ethernet Ariadne started acting up around
then too :(
(does anyone know why, after being setup for defaults, connected
to a hub (showing the card as active), and attempting to
connect, the card becomes inactive (the hub light goes out), and
Genesis claims to be connected?).
Sorry I can't give you more details, I'm currently without
phone, due to moving house. I have a friend with a Linux setup
he has been using for a year - he had a similar problem with
NTLworld trying to kill his machine. Something to do with the
TCP/IP stack? I have no idea.
Apart from this (and if I could get Genesis to work happily with
it, as I really like Genesis), I would advise many people to use
NTLworld - especially if your telco is NTL, as then the service
is *completely* free :)
All the best,
