If you can't flush the router for now don't worry about it.
What i did is (This is from memory I’m afraid, some of it I may have
done differently):
set up a vm running debian,
set another one running debian,
installed ntk, (whichever flavour you want) on both vms,
used some tuntap and mkbridge magic to route two machines on
192.168.2.1/24 (A different subnet then my 192.168.1.1/24 home network)
start the vms with some network interface parameters (I guess the
tun0,tun1 or something)
watch a lot of weird traffic in between them.
and that's how far i got it to work +- a few games with routes.
after that we'll need to set up a few more complex bridges trickery on
the 10.0.0.0 range or even... on ipv6...
After a few people have done that, setup up more tunnels to other
swarms/nodes.
then, figure out what it does and does not do correctly, how the hell do
we put up services inside it, while also trying to see what works or
does not in between swarms of different version (c/py/vala)
I have no idea where to even begin doing any of this in anything other
then linux so I’ll leave that to you to sort out.
On a router, I managed to, once a long time ago, build and run a node
with pyntk, it involved some weird build of python (stackless).
if iirc the c version was easier to install on wrt,
for the vala, you need some libraries, and make sure you have an
actually up to date vala,
You need to post on the list what you have done, how you have done it,
and find people to connect to with this, you will eventually need a
wireless router, or 10.
once we have that, we can start opening the routers in public places
(Using another managed interface) with a default page explaining how
to set it up and what it is, and offer
good enough services for people to bother (such as shared/free internet
connection).
I think that's about it.
