Subject: A Question or two:
Bonnie:
To decode a file attached to a message, you must do so in two
steps. The second step does not automatically follow from the first
insomuch as you must manually go to a separate menu to implement the
second step.
STEP 1: While reading a message with file attachment, press the S key
followed by the D key. When asked if you want the file prepared
for decode, respond with the Y key. Continue reader E-Mail
until finished, and then move to STEP 2.
STEP 2: Return to the F3/Work menu and choose "Other Services."
(option F) From the menu that follows, select option I -- the
UUdecode option. You'll be prompted to select the path to the file
to be decoded and the file itself. Make your way to the file in the
same way you do when selecting specific files to read or edit
from within Net-Tamer. If the file to be decoded is a
MIME/base64 file, it will have a .64 extension; if it is a
UUencoded file, it will have a .UUE extension. Once you've
found and selected this file from within Net-Tamer's
selection menu, Net-Tamer will ask if you wish to delete the
source file after decoding. Respond according to your
preference. When prompted to specify a path to the
destination directory/subdirectory where the file is to be
decoded, respond according to your preference.
The two-step process above works fairly well in Net-Tamer version
1.12.0. However, Base64 decoding can be problematic. That's to say
Net-Tamer sometimes cannot recognize base64 encoding as created by
OTHER software. So, if you receive a base64 encoded file from someone
using software other than Net-Tamer, beware. UUencoded files seem to
decode nicely without regard to whatever software was used to encode
them.
