Not so good an idea, me thinks, and at best a work-around (and one which
implies a lot of codelines and thus, footprint).

The problem at hand is the editor or rather, the editing routine: It
shouldn't need to digest a whole long file but only chunks of it at
any one time.
(But this would imply a thorough rewrite of some of READER.EXE's parts,
and another approach to the "databases" which are the tags and news.for
files - it never entered my head why these should be binary files, and
fields-organised the way they are. The raw stuff for them comes as text
and could be handled much easier as such, if need be outside of the
program itself. No file-length limit there either.)
