Hi,

I have never done this so I might be out of line however I don't think you
can adjust the speed of the parallel port. There is a way to adjust the
settling time on the Centronics standard but there are only a couple of
possibilities there as well and generally they are not fooled with. the
figure 115.2 is the top speed of the serial UART and nothing to do with the
parallel port. This is why devices like printers and scanners which use the
parallel port do not require any adjustment of rate to work, unlike those
which use the serial port.

Only if using the serial port will it be necessary to set the rate the same
on both machines. It will also be necessary to set parity, stop bits and
handshaking to agree between the machines. There was mention in an earlier
message of setting the receiving machine faster then the sending machine or
something like that however this will not work. They must agree unless you
have intelligent enough software to negotiate a mutually agreeable serial
port rate and I am unaware of anything like that. Modems can do so but the
rate at which the modem communicates with the computer is generally fixed
and only the modems negotiate between each other.

Processor speed is not relevant for either machine. neither is parallel port
speed I am near certain. Given the relatively small amount of data Karen
will be transferring and the dongle required by her speech software I would
recommend using a serial connection using a null modem cable and possibly a
slower speed than 115,200 where there will be much less likelihood of errors
in transmission. Be sure however that it is a null modem cable and you
should probably label it as such or better still purchase a small null modem
adapter so you can use the cable for other things should the need arise. You
may already have a long enough cable connecting the computer to your modem,
just need the adapter. All it does is cross lines 2 and 3 but doing so
renders the cable useless for nearly any other purpose except connecting two
computers.

Okay processor speeds are not an issue here. You're going to want to set
the parallel port speed to 115200 on both machines. If I'm not mistaken,
that's the parallel port default in which case just having intersvr and
interlnk use the parallel ports and telling them nothing more may be
sufficient.
