Karen,

You have it right.

I always put a space between the switches when using xcopy /s /e /v
but I am not sure whether that is necessary.

Good luck!

   hi richard,
okay i am going to try to ask this question very very carefully
this time. you are suggesting, that i can
a, create a directory on the target c drive named new.
b, running intersrv again create the drive structure which
interlink on my source computer would show as say for the target
computer c = e with the size given as the actual size of the target
hard drive c, using the xcopy command in the following manner:
   xcopy c:\*.* e:\new /s/e/v
and successfully transfer the contents of my source c drive,
including all sub-directories and the like to the directory e:\new
on the he hard drive of the target machine?
and that once this is completed, there will be a directory on what
is really the c drive of the target machine named new that would
have the entire contents of the hard drive of the source machine in
   it?
do i understand the process fully and correctly?
i agree partition is not my idea of a picnic, but i also have a
mess on the c drive of the target machine just now. so wish to be
very certain i have all the elements in place *before* i try
   anything.
