AOL is proprietary and they have a right to restrict what software is
used to access their service. AOL is part of Time Warner and Netscape
also belongs to AOL. I understand that AOL has a special version of IE
that can be used with AOL in those cases where the AOL software doesn't
run properly. I've heard of a case where the AOL software wouldn't run
(or even load) under Windows 2000, for example. However, I don't think
we can expect to see AOL being forced to make their service available to
people using Opera or Lynx or Net-Tamer. If they do make it possible to
use other browsers to access AOL, it will be AOL's decision and made
only because of market pressure.

It's all well and good to claim that there's a violation of the Sherman
Anti-Trust Act, but someone has to bring charges against MS and AOL/Time
Warner and that someone is the U.S. Justice Department. I haven't heard
that they are taking any new interest in this.
