Any forum, be it political, social, cultural, open source, free software, dog lovers, is a grouping of human beings. Being a human being we normally tend to be humane towards the miseries of others. So a group, whether it is fosscom group, dog lovers group or any other group, is a place to spread the word so that more people will come forward with a helping hand. So a dog lovers group though is for dog welfare, is not closed in helping human beings affected by terrible disasters like floods. This is because dog lovers group is formed not by a group of dogs but of human beings.
There is nothing wrong in fsmk or fosscom coming forward with a helping hand to help flood victims, for it is the duty of all of us to help those who have lost everything. Helping flood victims, or posting an appeal to help flood victims will in no way dilute/affect what fosscom stands for. An appeal for help is not an appeal to start a discussion on flood relief. It is an appeal to the group members to contribute for a cause. Ignore it if you are not interested in its cause. That's it. Scrutinizing even an appeal for relief is cruel and outrageous. It is regrettable that there are people who feel violated when they receive an appeal for help, that too genuine. -Roopesh
