Hi, I am a journalist and a FLOSS user. At work, I am forced to use pagemaker / indesign / photoshop practically due to the managerial decision of respective publishers, but theoretically because of non availability of good FLOSS alternatives or replacements.
Scribus is fast for latin rendering, but does not support complex script in unicode. It also does not support iscii fonts -ie, the old Indian language fonts made by CDAC or any other entity. So using it in Indian scenario is almost out of question. Gimp as if now does not have native CMYK support which is a must for publishing industry. On the other hand, Krita, a KDE dependent program in its infancy boasts it. But if you want to create pages using FLOSS tools, inkscape is a sure call. Though it is meant to be an svg editor, inkscape can be used for pagination using unicode fonts. Sebin
