''NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is a joint
initiative of the IITs and IISc. Through this initiative, we offer online
courses and certification in Programming, Data structures & Algorithms.''

I presume the question of whether they need 'help' to manage the login
scenario was tongue-in-cheek.

I don't know about IISc, but many, perhaps all of the IITs manage their
student and alumni email using Google services. Possibly the step of
restricting registration to Gmail IDs is a careless and perhaps lazy step
of the person/group managing the website and online services, or possibly
they are simply unaware.

A simple straightforward letter to the organisation, pointing out the
restriction that will make some students hesitate to join at all, should
get quick results.
