+1 for Vikram.
I too as an accessibility advocate have been concerned with this aspect.
There are several sterio type approaches being taken at the moment and while they will have some value of their own, I don't see a reason why not to think about the kind of points Vikram raised.
Happy hacking.

I spend a lot of my time considering issues around accessibility, and it is frustrating sometimes that there seems to be a kind of 'replicate the medium' attitude, ie do the same thing, only use a computer. If hearing is an issue, use some smart way of conveying sound to the brain, and so on.

There is less thinking around 'what is communication?' or 'what senses does the user actually have, and how can the communication be accomplished using them, instead of conventional wisdom, and the way it has always been?'.

Likewise, let us not quickly dispense with the aids to discussion and consensus and action that we have, just because there are some new ones around. Each has its value in completing the communication necessary to evolve this movement. Virtual nimbu pani may not be quite as refreshing, physical meetings are hard to document usefully.
