Iain mentioned many points in his message. I've wanted to list exactly
these points for a long time, but hesitated (last time I tried to mention
SOME of these points, I was a little "flamed"...).
<wink>
While reading his message, I had to look at the name next to the "From:"
field, to ensure that the sender is not me.

Talks/feedbacks/impressions from other users who I meet, second these
claims.
Everything here is volunteered, so I don't have any right to ask for
something, but, neverthess, please let me ask this thing:
Consider mod_proxy as different than other things that were mentioned
here.
This is my humble request. Reasons:
Contrary to other modules, it is much more tied to the core Apache, and
not just a module.
In addition, it was already included, and many users got used to it.
You can't just break the "backward compatibility" and direct these users
to an external module, especially when these users already depend on
other external modules with patches to the core Apache (e.g. mod_ssl).
And it is also different that APR. APR must be stand-alone, because
modules depend on it, and sometimes, modules should be ported to a
stand-alone format. I experienced a similar case, with a module that did
some filtering, and I wanted to run it without Apache. It was hard,
because it used "ap_" functions and so on.
The Apache2 project is really impressive, and your effort is highly
appreciated. But please, think about the users.
Thanks,
