It seems like I will be joining you with OO if I cannot fix my kword print problem. I have a choice of 4 drivers for my Z53 printers(of which we have 3) and I make a practice of setting up all 4 every time. 3 of these drivers are ghostscript, the 4th is a proprietary(lexmark) , and all 4 each work to a degree, and I don't have any problem with the character spacing with any other app like mozilla for instance, which I use quite often Only kword, and I think kde in general, though I might be wrong there as I haven't test it with the likes of kspread, which I gave up on some time ago as I couldn't solve it's basic problems. I like kword, it has many good features, and the developers have made it more than a word processor, so I want to make it work if I can.

If the problem is with the drivers, then I don't see why it is,
since other apps can use them without problems, still , even if it
is with the drivers, I sure don't know where and what I am supposed
to do with it. I mean the driver setting include many options, but
nothing I would sort of figure have anything to do with the
character spacing. If I am wrong , by all means correct me I want
to learn what to do as much as the next man. I'm guessing it's a
kde setup problem , but what ?

John, you've been using kword and 9.1 for a long time. Is this a new problem? Or have you changed your printer?

Anne

As you know I dual Linux boot, so while the kde printer setup failed in M9.1 I maintained and still have MD9.0 where my existing printer, Lexmark Z53, which hasn not been changed in any way, has worked with all apps flawlessly, as far as character spacing in concerned.

Having got the printer to work in MD9.1, I am thinking of wiping M9.0 for MD9.2 install, but if I cannot use kword in MD9.1, then , I have to reconsider my options. It's a pain to switch word processor. It just seems daft that kword cannot print off as usual. I ain't done anything different to my knowledge, though I believe there have been some changes in the kde pre spooling arangements lately, but why should that make a difference anyway ?
It leaves me thinking someone has been tampering with my Z53 drivers , but then I don't see why the drivers have much to do with it, it isn't the apps themselves that determin such matters as character and line spacing or am I wrong ?
