How did you install Linux -- as workstation, development station, or
server, as ___, ___, or expert? Unfortunately, there are some choices
which will wipe out windows entirely. If you didn't make one of the
wrong choices, then I would have expected lilo or grub to be set up and
to include Windows as one of the choices presented to you at boot up
time.

Depending on how brave/familiar you are with Linux and disk
partitioning, you may want to start the Mandrake installation again, but
choose expert this time, and proceed just until you see the partitions
are displayed. Make a list of the partitions, then abort the
installation before you do anything like revise the partition table.
(If if you don't know of a better way to abort, simply turn the computer
off. It is not good practice, and when you come up again, Linux will
run the fsck utility on each partition, but I don't expect that you've
hurt anything.

Post your findings back -- someone will be able to tell you whether
windows might still be there or has been wiped out.

If it's been wiped out, that's unfortunate. Seek some more advice here
before you try again. Best practice (AFAIK) for setting up a dual boot
system is to (re)install Windows first -- Linux can deal with Windows,
but Windows can't (or doesn't want) to deal with Linux.

If Windows is still there, someone can give you advice on setting up
Lilo or grub to boot to windows.

AFAIK, any external modem made in the last 10 years will work with
Linux. (Any telephone modem, as opposed to a cable or DSL modem.)

Hope this helps,
