Not true about the external modem,, do not get a USB modem unless you know
for SURE, its not a winModem, many are...

If you are getting an external, get a serial modem,, at least that way you
can be sure its not a winmodem,, and make sure its hayes compatable...

as for windoes... do you have a /windows in your /mnt directory?

if so does it have your files in it???

if so you need to reconfigure/reload grub or lilo to boot it.

Windows should still be there but you should have installed GRUB on the
master boot record. This would give you the option to boot the OS's on your
PC.

Any external modem should be fine.
