problems. How do we get icon's for additional applications, eg sylpheed
& mozilla, into the kicker bar. Also, how to configure the clock's
style from HH:MM:SS to HH:MM.

We've looked here, there, everywhere...but obviously not in the right
place. Any pointers would be appreciated.

By default the icons in the taskbar are read from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icewm/toolbar.
This can be overridden by creating .icewm/toolbar in your home directory.

The format of this file is

prog Terminal terminals_section.png xvt
prog Emacs emacs.png emacs
prog Mozilla mozilla.png mozilla

The line must start with 'prog', this is followed by what will appear in the ballon help when the mouse is over the icon eg, 'Mozilla'. Next comes the icon to display on the button. ICEWM searches for icons in the icon search path that is defined in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icewm/preferences ( or ~/.icewm/preferences ) and finally comes the command to execute.

If the programme is not installed the button will not be displayed.

ICEPREF is a configuration utility that analyses the preferences file and is available in the contrib directories on the mirrors but is not on the discs.

I also a low spec laptop and use icewm. I find icewm so good that I also use it on my high spec machines. What do you use for a file manager. Could I suggest ROX which also is good for low spec machines.

Cheers
Nigel
