Just for fun, why not download DSL (Damn Small Linux). It uses Fluxbox for GUI, is Knoppix based (excellent hardware identification), and works really well on old machines without a lot of RAM--it's requirements are a 486DX with 16 megs. I use it on an old laptop and it really is an awesome piece of work. It can even boot from a floppy and run from the CD, and it can be installed to the HD, too! Probably the only thing you would really need to add would be your Winmodem driver. The newest version is a 2.6 kernel, I think, but the 1.3.x version uses a 2.4 kernel (the second link to the archive). http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/damnsmall/archive/
