Er, I'm sure you know this but you can remove them. You can also assign you're 
most used apps/icons to the taskbar. Enable the desktop menu, just use menus 
for everything.

Didn't Tom or someone say they ran a desktop like that, using only minimal 
icons, assigning menus to mouse (right/left/middle) buttons and things like 
that?
