A simple connection should do the trick, with you setting all the stuff up on the machine using ifconfig <interface>. The device you set up is the connection interface at the machine end; you don't set the modem up as a device like you do a dialup modem.
Hi Trisch,
running "ifconfig <interface>" from console gives
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'

"ifconfig" alone gives
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
         inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
         UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
inet addr:203.164.180.16 P-t-P:203.164.180.254 Mask:255.255.255.255

         collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
         RX bytes:89837 (87.7 KiB) TX bytes:28244 (27.5 KiB)

Beats me what it might mean
Peter
