That is the first thing I would suggest. If there is an ethernet connection
on the modem, USE THAT! Forget the usb connection. More trouble than they
are worth. Also forget kppp and use your browser to connect to the modem
which will most likely be either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 Then you can
set the connection parameters in there. If it is a modem only and you don't
use a router/firewall then best setup your software firewall asap.
