Yes I understand and have cable modem at home but uncomfortably at work
I can only use dial-up as the business cost of cable modem is too high.

Not showing the modem Ian. I also have a Conexant HSF PCI modem in hand
but do not quite comprehend how to install the Linux driver for it so
for quickness (I would like to get out of XP permanently and into Linux
ASAP) I thought I would just find a new $14.95 modem compatible with
Linux if possible with the limited new part access in this town and
Wal-Mart being the main source. I went to their web page but the modems
do not list OS compatibility.
Try here http://www.mandriva.com/hardware
to see if it lists any modems you can get your hands on.
Failing that, when I last used a modem, I found invaluble advice on this page
http://linmodems.org/
I'm afraid I took the modem out of my cpomputer as it was simply wasting
space :-)
