Check out recoll. It also indexes the contents of many types of
files.

What do you find more complicated?
I use both recoll [GUI] and locate [CLI], under different
circumstances. Usually locate to just find a file name if I'm at the
cli, and recoll if I'm looking for something in the contents of files.
I would agree locate is simpler for just file names, if you have a
Konsole open. Are you more interested in file names rather than
contents?
Yes, file names mainly, at the CLI. I do almost everything from the
console (gnome-terminal), 6 or 7 open all the time.
