I have had some progress. If I replace chips with vesa, I can bring up
GNOME. With KDE as the desktop I get a fatal server error caught signal
11. Putting in echo statements in startkde, it occurs afters lnusertemp
socket possibly during LD_BIND_NOW and prior to knotify. Althought I
think it is a separate process from startkde that it causing the x server
to die.
Attached is the log file (start &>logfile) when trying to run kde.
