Make sure you are using the "nv" driver->it's non-accelerated, but it works, 
at least it did for me.
no, changing to a server-class install will make no difference: the xserver 
is required for a gui, so that won't change anything.
My suggestion would be to go to nvidia.com and install their drivers. They're 
closed-source (bad!) but are updated just as often as their windows drivers, 
and are very fast. There are RPMs available, too: they make my Gf2mx work 
like a charm.
