Ok, an answer to both of your questions:

To Joe: XFree86 4.0.1 does not support the GeForce2 series of cards (just
the GeForce) if I remember correctly. Try RedHat 7.1 or another distro that
comes with XFree86 4.0.3 or later, or manually upgrade X to 4.1.0

To Glen: The trick to making that card work is this: In the device section
for it (in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4), add a line that says 'Option "ChipID"
"goodchipID"' where goodchipID is the ChipID of any other Rage 128 chip (I
used to remember which ones worked, but I haven't messed with this card in a
while, and I'm not at my box. If anyone remembers a working ChipID, please
post)

Hey Joe,

Sounds like the same error I get when I installed RH
7.1 with a ATI Xpert 128 Pro PCI card. It seems the
version of X (4.0.3) DOES NOT support it. I even
tried X 4.1.0 and still no luck. I then installed
Mandrake 8.0 Powerpack and it wouldn't run X either.
