Yea the drivers are on the site, they're closed source though and for good 
optimalisation you need a 2.4.x kernel (due to AGP support in this kernel)

When all else fails use xf86config, I always use it, it's textmode and runs 
fine. If you have a nvidia card just select one of the cards that has a 
nvidia chip (like RIVA TNT) and configure your monitor resolution colordepth 
etc. Launch X, if it works go to www.nvidia.com download the drivers and 
install them, the manual that comes with it (README or INSTALL) will tell you 
to modify the config file and what to change, if you did it correctly when 
you start x you'll see (really fast though) an nvidia logo screen
