SVGA simply happens to be the server into which most of the drivers found
their way in 3.3.6... It's not really generic. For 3.3.6, using vesafb with
XF86_FBDev is the unaccelerated, generic method. VESA, OTOH is truly generic
(and is a 4.x driver). SVGA is suggested with 3.3.6 because it offers
accelerated support for many cards.

Hi,
I keep thinking (possibly wrongly) that SVGA is a 3.3.6 server and that VESA
is the 4.x.x server
of choice for all those who cannot find a better (i.e. accelerated) one...
I may be mistaken but X -configure (or XFree86 -configure for that matter)
generates usually
something quite useful but it sticks it in /root and calls it
XF86Configure.new. i.e. you must
rename it and stick it in /etc/X11...
