SNIP > Question one: It seems the graphic card is included both in 3.3.6 and > 4.1.0 - but what does an ABSOLUTE NEWCOMER to Linux now have to do? Read a lot. For Cirrus cards for exapmle there is a lot of HOWTO, go read through it. ALL of it. I *really* mean it! I had to remap memory to get a Cirrus GD5xxx working, took my a lot of time but in the end it was only one or two lines which had to be added in xf86config. (Please dont ask me bout details, this was aeons ago!) > to download something, I can transfer this via diskette to the Linux > machine 'course. Use mtools, come with SuSE. peep into yast (better not yast2, brrr) to check out whether you installed it, if not, do so. The elegant way would be to write a mount entry in fstab for your floppy, but get X running first ;-) > Question two: how do I close down my system, while in text mode? The > 'logoff' command, which I have found, will only lead to a new login > possibility, but not close the computer down. Is it correct to just > power it off? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry) This a fake question? You kiddin?! just cuz it looks like DOS doesn't mean it behaves like it (and how *lucky* we are it does not!) type: "halt" or "shutdown -r now" (not sure bout this) _______________________________________________ Newbie mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
