        Did you install the ports?  Check and see if you have a /usr/ports
directory filled with all kinds of stuff.  If you don't, then ftp to 
ftp.freebsd.org and pull down the latest tar ball.  Check out the handbook 
at www.freebsd.org, or use the one on your system with lynx, if you have it 
installed.  Its a text only browser.
        Once you have the ports installed, you can go into the kde 
directory and as root, 

        make
        make install
        make clean
        make clean-depends

        Make sure you're online when you do this.  Go read War and Peace, and 
by the time you're through, KDE should be built ;)
