The starter won't work with only 5V. Recharge battery and try the starter
again. Let's not jump at this job.
## did you leave the key on or just the handlebar switch ? If the key was off
nothing else should matter. When you check for voltage at the starter, use a
frame ground and not the battery negative terminal for a second check to verify
battery ground to frame. I'm just trying to make sure the ONLY thing wrong is
the starter. This is starting to sound more like a cluster.

okay, thanks guys....heres an update....

email....still not recieving....changed my settings as advised by kyle
to "email" and checked my Yahoo account to try to ensure that emails
from the group aren't getting blocked...it doesn't seem to be, but who
know what they can do that i can't see, right? ...although i did get
the email from Paul sent to the group address AND my personal
address. so what more can i do now...should i unsubscribe and sign up
again...do you think maybe that will help?

more importantly though, i did the quick test recommended by Dennis,
and here are the results:

after installing my new solenoid on Friday morning, i stupidly left
the "run" button on, which as everyone including me knows slowly
discharges the battery...so with that said, i tested the battery and
i'm only getting 5V from it....off to the charger with it....but i
also tested the terminal at the starter as instructed by Dennis, and
its getting the same 5V....so i assume that i need to charge the
battery and rebuild the starter....sooooo...where to start...i am
definately going to have to ask for help on this one...how does one
start a 'starter rebuild?...

ohh, and by the way, i did also test the old solonoid before buying
the new one, and it wasn't any volts to the terminal on the
starter...so it was definately shot.....

thanks again for all y'alls help.... hope to hear from y'all soon.

the button ? Yes: repair starter, No: solenoid is bad.  If you had done that
first, you might have saved yourself some bucks to spend elsewhere. Answer this
one and if you need help with a starter rebuild, get back to us. Good luck
