Since we were blessed with some nice weather (50 and sunny) I decided to break out some wrenches and swap out my fuel filter, and maybe check to see if I could cure this buzzing. To make a long story short, I had to remove the engine guards because one of my bonehead friends broke the key in the lock when they were locked up outside his apt. When I removed the guards to free the bike, I didn't replace the bolts, thinking they just held the guards on...Well, after looking at the bike for a few minutes (thanks to Dennis' advice) I realized that these bolts were supposed to hold the freaking engine mount onto the frame...after replacing these bolts it seemed to vibrate a bit less above 5000rpm. (the pegs buzz over 5k rpm even when the bike is in neutral, so I I'm pretty sure I can rule out tight spots in the chain)
Putting the bolts on seemed to help some, but the buzzing is definitely still there above 5000 rpm. Are there supposed to be rubber mounts or washers or something on these bolts? Could a blown head gasket or worn out O rings give me this kind of vibration? I think I am going to buy a gasket kit tonight anyway to fix my oil leak...along with some tank sealer, a new leather jacket, better armor....(!!$$$$$$$$$$$) My $650 bike seems like it's becoming a $6000 bike.
