The clutch switch is a parallel to the neutral switch. The neutral switch (if
working properly) will allow it to start with the clutch handle out. Check the
diagram. Repair.

Good news, I pulled my clutch in and it started with the starter button. Thank
you everyone who gave me suggestions.

On your bike the clutch definitely needs to be in to start. The clutch switch
is a very simple normally open 2wire switch and is easy to test, but if you're
not pulling in the clutch handle to start that could be part of your problem.

It may not be necessary but one word of warning, if you buy the Clymer manual
the starter button is definitely one of the areas where Mr Clymer is wrong.
Save yourself the grief and use the Honda manuals.

I've got an 84 650SC, there are wires attached to my clutch. Is that the clutch
switch? I haven't tried starting it with the clutch in so that could be it,
also I am putting a screwdriver across the two nuts on the starter solenoid to
start it.

What kind of bike do you have? They're all subtly different around the starter
button. I know my 650 had 4 contact points, the button normally closed the
circuit driving the headlight, when depressed it broke the circuit to the
headlight and closed the circuit to the starter relay. Another factor is the
clutch switch, if the clutch isn't pulled in, or the switch isn't working, the
relay won't close to power the starter. Depending on where you're hotwiring
from you might be bypassing this. You just gotta take it step by step.

I recently bought a used but still working starter button/ kill switch

assembly due to thinking that the starter button was bad and wasn't

starting my bike, I put the new one on and the same thing happens.

Headlight will be on, when I hit the starter button the headlight dims

but nothing happens. I can start my bike by jumping the starter

solenoid, and the bike will run just fine. Is this problem the starter

solenoid, is it the start/kill switch assembly, or is it some other

wiring?
