My neighbor has one of those things sitting in his driveway...
Don't get all elaborate before you get it right the first time.  I'd love for
someone to improve on it. Don't restrict the air, that's not the purpose. The
effect will be the same but it will cause a fall off above whatever. ?? Think
more along square inches. It's a fine line but decreasing volume and
restricting is not the same thing. Every time air enters a large space it slows
down. My idea is not to have any large empty spaces but the right size intake
tract. If I spend some time, I could come up with the exact size in sq In . A
high speed air mass has inertia. So... Have you seen any of those trick after
market truck intake systems ? Same idea. With a bike, we don't have the luxury
of space to work in. Have to change what we have.
I recorded my 700 today. Have to edit and convert the file. Post it later
tonight.

A buddy of mine (rx-7 driver) is suggesting I cut flaps and use two cups, a
smaller one inside a larger one so I'd have one for low speeds and another for
high speeds. Kind of like the complicated setup mazda had on it's 90s rx-7s,
the setup that killed that car in the american market.

I'm going to try trimming it down just a tad, I was also thinking about
possibly using varying amounts of tape across the opening of the cone? Would
that have the same effect?

I want to record my VF1100 too, a very nice sound.
Shorten by about 1/2~3/4" I think your burble will still be there but there
will be some changes. I have to look for some charts I have on the dynamics of
carburation. It shows what is being used at different throttle openings.

I don't have any fancy recorders, just my mp3 player. I'll try putting the
stock air filter back in and recording that at the same RPMs for something to
compare to.

I'll also
try cutting the cup around the top to make it shorter, and narrower so it will
go deeper into the cone.

After looking closely at the photo and listening to the audio file, I conclude
the cup is too tall and blocking some of the inlet. Try a smaller (shorter)
example. I have to record mine and submit the file. Sounds way different than
yours. Unless the recording setup rolls off at the bottom. ?? What did you use
? I'm going to use a portable studio cassette recorder and convert to m...@160
BR  It's a setup I used for broadcast FM years ago. ('06) Studio grade mike and
recorder. Our budget didn't stretch far enough to use digital.

Check the jet sizes anyway. Leave no stone... or it it stoned ?
